A day in the life…
As a Candymaker, you will work directly with the candy making team in the Kitchen. A typical day will include measuring and mixing ingredients to form only the finest product, operating and maintain machinery, following all quality and safety standards, and sanitizing your area during and at the end of your shift. This position does require a reasonable amount of heavy lifting and somebody that has a passion for creating something that creates happiness.
What you will be doing…
Our tradition of handcrafting quality chocolates in small batches begins with our Candy Makers. Using recipes that started in the kitchen of Mrs. Stover, our Candy Makers make everything from chocolate, caramels, creams and fruit and nut centers. All work is done with a focus on quality and safety. The key responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to:
- Operates kitchen equipment such as large mixers, ovens and large pots in a safe and proficient manner according to standards, guidelines and instructions.
- Mixes and/or cooks candies in batches per Russell Stover Chocolates standards.
- Reads and understands formulas/recipes, measurements, tapes and thermometers.
- Reads and understands product specifications established by Russell Stover Chocolates and recognizes deviations from those specifications.
- Monitor more than one batch or process simultaneously.
- Performs clean-up activities as assigned.
- May be assigned other duties by plant management as required.
A TYPICAL SCHEDULE FOR THIS ROLE IS 10 HR SHIFTS MONDAY - THURSDAY. START AND END TIMES WILL VARY WITH THE EARLIEST START BEING 1:30 PM AND THE LATEST END TIME BEING 12:30 AM. DURING PEAK SEASON, OVERTIME MAY BE REQUIRED

(Basic Qualifications)
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Able to read and understand recipes
- Possess basic math skills
- Able to read and write in English
- Able to lift up to 100 lbs.
- Able to routinely and frequently stand, stoop, bend and lift overhead during a 10-hour shift
- Able to stand on hard surfaces for the duration of a 10-hour shift

- High school diploma or GED
- Experience working in a commercial kitchen
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment
What it’s like at the Russell Stover Plants
- Safety. Your safety is important to us, so we provide protective gear. We also go through an in-depth Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) training on your first day and continue to share safety tips daily
- Surroundings. You’ll be working around different machines – Schubert’s, forklifts, electric pallet jacks, and chocolate candy banks/steels.
- Activity. Some activities may require standing in one place for long periods, walking around, or climbing stairs/ladders, and routinely lift 50 lbs.
- Temperature. You will be comfortable year-round with our climate-controlled environment. Our temperatures are consistently around 63°F but could fluctuate depending on your specific role.
- Smell. You will enjoy a variety of deliciously sweet aromas and you may end your day smelling like chocolate!
- Dress code. Relaxed, with a few rules to follow for food safety, personal safety and in guidance with our good manufacturing practices (GMP). Comfortable, safety toe (composite) slip resistant shoes are required. Leather, imitation leather, or rubber boots or shoes must be worn in the kitchen and other areas when working around hot liquid/product or hot water.
