Description

An important link in the Engineering chain, the Project Engineer manages capital improvement projects involving chocolate manufacturing process systems. The role is responsible for developing and maintaining project scope, budget, timeline and success criteria to meet given objectives, in addition to serving as an expert resource to production and maintenance on new equipment, system installations. The Project Engineer acts as a liaison to Production, Marketing, QA and R&D to ensure all work is communicated timely and accurately. The Project Engineer will also assume additional project engineering responsibilities in processing and packaging applications and facilities work to support the Senior Engineering Manager. This position, by ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures, is responsible for recommending, developing, implementing and managing safety, quality and food safety on all product lines.

Key responsibilities include:

Projects

  • Design, plan and organize new installations in strong collaboration with Production and QA departments.
  • Manage capital installation work and ensure the projects are in scope, on time and on budget, and meet RSC’s GMP and safety requirements.
  • Ensure that the assigned projects are completed to specifications and to customer’s expectations and requirements in a timely and satisfactory manner.
  • Ensure efficient hand over of new installations to Production Department through proper training and documentation of new equipment and/or packaging/process system.
  • Guide engineering work by contractors or vendors and ensure commissioned performance of installations. Achieve a pre-determined set of vendor acceptance and production hand-off criteria for new equipment.
  • Conduct feasibility analysis for proposed solutions to accommodate production, QA and management requirements in an optimal solution.
  • Carry out independent concept investigations for solutions to assigned projects.
  • Write investment requests with strong justification for new projects and follow through on IR approval.
  • Communicate project goals to Production, Marketing, QA, Planning, Maintenance and other associated departments.
  • Work with vendors to order, specify, test and approve new equipment
  • Coordinate mechanical and electrical installation requirements with both outside contractors and internal resources where applicable.
  • Work with Training Supervisor, equipment vendor or outside resource to develop training procedure for new equipment.
Production and Maintenance Department Support
  • Provide troubleshooting help for supervisors and leads
  • Serve as a resource for Maintenance when expert and in-depth information is required for troubleshooting and preventative work on new equipment.
  • Conduct operational training on new equipment
Support Marketing, R&D and Purchasing Departments with Development of New Packaging
  • Provide timely support to meet Marketing, R&D and/or Purchasing requirements in launching new or improved products and / or packaging items. This includes specifying and ordering new tools or machines for new products or packaging improvements and follow-through on implementation from concept to production start-up and training.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
  • 2 years of experience in process engineering and engineering project management
Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree in mechanical or electrical engineering
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent electrical and mechanical hands-on skills
  • Ability to start, address and prioritize project issues independently and juggle multiple projects with minimal supervision.
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate at all levels of the organization
  • Strong and effective written communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Familiar with standard concepts, best practices in field, and procedures in project management.
  • Ability to learn and understand an integrated system (SAP)
  • Ability to coordinate projects at various levels in the organization
  • Familiarity with chocolate making processes preferred
  • Preferred knowledge and some proficiency in PLC language (Allen Bradley and Siemens)
