Description
Working with the Category Management Team, the Category Analyst is responsible for providing category analysis and deep business insights at the Total, Channel and Retailer levels for Russell Stover. He/She will support the development of category-specific stories and strategies that make a direct impact to grow the business. The Category Analyst will be responsible for providing category analysis and insights to Russell Stover retailers in the areas of assortment, shelving, pricing, promotion and shopper insights to drive category growth and help deliver against Russell Stover’s business objectives. He/She will be responsible for leveraging data from multiple sources (POS and Panel syndicated data, customer data, loyalty data, etc.) to provide a suite of reports that monitor KPIs and provide corrective actions as well as deliver advanced analytics/tools to the organization that drive the business. Additionally, the Category Analyst will be responsible for the creation and delivery of plan-o-grams that include space-to-sales and profit generation analysis. He/She will also develop partnerships with external data providers while maintaining numerous databases to provide category, item and merchandising insights from various portals. The Category Analyst will be able to work collaboratively with the Marketing, Innovation, Sales Strategy and Customer Development, Retail Operations and Field Sales teams. This role reports to the Head of Category Management.


Responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to:

Category Analysis, Insights and Reporting

  • Provide ongoing analysis and interpretation of market data to identify category opportunities that drive growth for the category and Russell Stover.
  • Analyze POS and Panel data to create actionable insights that assist in the creation and execution of shopper-centric category strategies.
  • Maintain and enhance category reporting (weekly and monthly consumption reports), seasonal dashboards and category tools.

Support Category Plans

  • Provide analytical support in the development, implementation and evaluation of category plans for seasonal and non-seasonal businesses.
  • Responsible for category plan-o-gram creation, maintenance and analysis.

Support go-to-market category strategies through improved shopper insights

  • Provide continuous shopper insights into all Category Management deliverables utilizing and integrating shopper segmentation research from Numerator.
  • Partner with the Commercial Sales and Marketing Teams to develop merchandising and shelving solutions (plan-o-grams) based on shopper insights.
  • Maintain a shopper insights best-in-class library for Russell Stover leveraging available research.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or 2 years of business analytics experience
  • Experience using advanced functions within Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelors' degree in Business, Marketing or Finance
  • 2+ years of business analytics experience preferably in Sales or Category Management
  • Experience using syndicated data (IRI, Nielsen, Kantar) and loyalty data
  • Strong analytical, technical, and interpretations skills 
  • Insight and solution driven
  • Confectionary industry experience
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Great team player.
  • Ability to find unique and creative ways to add value through data and insights
  • Excellent written, communication and presentation skills
