This opening is for 2^nd shift: Monday – Thursday 4 PM – 2:30 AM. During peak seasons this position may work up 7 days a week, including weekends and holidays.

The Health & Safety Supervisor is responsible for maintaining a variety of occupational health and safety programs related to the safety of our employees and in compliance with applicable government regulations. This role will identify hazardous workplace conditions, ensure compliance with applicable federal and state regulations and ensure necessary records are maintained in accordance with established guidelines. This role is responsible for initial medical treatment of injured employees, post-accident drug and alcohol screening and the management of the Workers’ Compensation claims that result. This role is also responsible for coordinating, assigning and supervising employees who are on light duty/transitional duty in accordance with their work restrictions. The person in this role will need to be a strong leader, effective communicator and be able to deal with confidential information appropriately.


This position reports to the Plant Manager with a dotted line to the Senior Manager, Environment, Health & Safety.
 

Basic Qualifications:
 

• High school diploma or GED
• 2 years of health and/or safety experience
• Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and state workers’ compensation law and insurance procedures
• Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
• Ability to bend, stoop, climb, reach and lift
• Ability to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds occasionally

Preferred Qualifications:
 

• Bachelor’s degree in a health and safety related field
• 3+ years of health and safety work experience
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from individuals and/or groups of employees, supervisors and managers
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal or diagram form
• Current certification in First Aid/CPR/AED. Instructor certification desirable.
• OSHA 40 hour Safety Certified
• Good decision maker and ability to perform in stressful situations
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Detail oriented
• Bilingual skills desirable: speak, read, write and address groups, individuals, conduct, investigations, counseling, training, mentoring using language other than English.

• Must be able to perform job duties on the production floor while exposed to various working conditions; work temperatures ranging from -10 to 110 degrees F
• Walking surfaces may be wet and one must be constantly aware of moving equipment parts, personnel, forklifts/pallet jacks, etc.
• Noise level in the work environment is usually loud in the manufacturing/production areas.
• Must be able to travel on an occasional basis
