A day in the life…
As the Machine Operator, you will monitor the machine on the line. You will perform any job assigned in support of production within the confines of the RSC property. The specific department in which the duties are performed falls under the Production Department.
Duties and Responsibilities: Listed in order, ranking the most essential duties first. Essential functions are primary job duties that are intrinsic to the position.
- Operates and maintains machinery, equipment and tools in a safe and proficient manner according to standards, guidelines and instructions.
- Sets up equipment, observes process and activity in area or on line. Ensures product meets specifications per RSC requirements.
- Performs maintenance as required. Must have ability to read scales, rules, tapes and thermometers.
- Must be able to read and understand quality specifications established by RSC for each product and recognize deviations from those specifications.
- Assists, trains, directs and monitors other employees of area, line or team as directed by supervisor.
- Responsible for ensuring your standard work is complete prior to start of shift, and then hourly.
- Responsible for monitoring candy weight, quality and production rates.
- Responsible for unwrapping all rework unless directed otherwise by supervisor.
- Responsible for ensuring supplies are available for production.
- Responsible for maintaining cleanliness of the machine.
- Responsible for machine condition and communicating any issues with the machine to the supervisor.
- Receives, stores, secures, maintains, loads and delivers product (raw and finished) and materials as required by the area, line or team
- Requires repeated bending, lifting, stooping and climbing up and down steps.
- Must be able to understand and complete paperwork accurately. Must have good record keeping ability.
- Conforms to rules. May be assigned other jobs by Supervisors required.
What it’s like at the Russell Stover Plants
- Safety. Your safety is important to us, so we provide protective gear. We also go through an in-depth Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) training on your first day and continue to share safety tips daily
- Surroundings. You’ll be working around different machines – Schubert’s, forklifts, electric pallet jacks, and chocolate candy banks/steels.
- Activity. Some activities may require standing in one place for long periods, walking around, or climbing stairs/ladders, and routinely lift 50 lbs.
- Temperature. You will be comfortable year-round with our climate-controlled environment. Our temperatures are consistently around 63°F but could fluctuate depending on your specific role.
- Smell. You will enjoy a variety of deliciously sweet aromas and you may end your day smelling like chocolate!
- Dress code. Relaxed, with a few rules to follow for food safety, personal safety and in guidance with our good manufacturing practices (GMP). Comfortable, closed-toe shoes are required. Leather, imitation leather, or rubber boots or shoes must be worn in the kitchen and other areas when working around hot liquid/product or hot water.

- Must be 18 years or older.
- Must be able to read and write in English.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
- Must be able to routinely and frequently stand, stoop, bend and lift overhead during a 10-hour shift.
- Must be able to stand on hard surfaces for the duration of a 10-hour shift.

- 2 or more years' experience operating machinery
- Ability to read and understand rulers, tapes, scales, and thermometers.
- Ability to read and understand product specifications established by Russell Stover Chocolates and recognize deviations from those specifications.
- Experience operating a scan gun.
